TT.VIII - Technical Parallel Track Sessions
Nanomaterials for THz Photonics and Electronics
Co-organised with Sapienza Univerisity of Rome
Chair: Antonio D'ALESSANDRO, Sapienza University of Rome

This session on THz nanomaterials for photonics and electronics will provide participants with an interdisciplinary overview of emerging materials, devices, and applications operating in the terahertz frequency range. Positioned between microwaves and infrared light, THz radiation offers unique opportunities for high-speed communication, imaging, sensing, spectroscopy, and next-generation electronic and photonic systems. We will introduce the fundamentals of THz science, including light–matter interaction at the nanoscale, carrier dynamics, plasmonic effects, metamaterials, two-dimensional materials, graphene, semiconductor nanostructures, and hybrid structures. Participants will explore how nanomaterials can be engineered to generate, manipulate, detect, and modulate THz waves with improved efficiency, tunability, and miniaturization. It will also address fabrication challenges, material characterization, device integration, scalability, and future research directions.Through lectures, expert discussions, and interactive sessions, the session aims to promote knowledge exchange and collaboration among young researchers and students, and professionals working at the interface of nanotechnology, photonics, and electronics, while encouraging new ideas for practical innovation, interdisciplinary projects, and advanced training in academic, industrial, and societal contexts and communities worldwide.
